This is a 3/4" Stainless Steel motorized ball valve with a stainless steel ball driven by metal gears, a PTFE ball seat and an EPDM seal. Benefits over a solenoid valve include it being bi-directional (capable of flowing in either direction), no water hammer (long close time of 4-5 seconds to fully open/close), no coil burn-out (negligible power required to hold position), and full flow without resistance. When power is given to the valve, the valve proceeds to fully open over 4-5 seconds all the while charging the internal capacitor. Once fully open, only a minimal amount of power is required to keep the capacitor charged. If power is lost or cut, then the power from the capacitor will fully close the valve. Please note, it takes a minimum of 60 seconds to charge the capacitor, so if power is cut before the capacitor is charged the valve may not fully close.
The XR22 actuator is rated IP67 and NEMA 4, therefore it is rated for outdoor use and resistant to splashes and sprays. Caution should still be used when installing outdoors, however, as extreme weather conditions can damage the valve. The actuator should preferably be installed upwards, especially in cases of high degrees of vibrations. There is also a position indicator on the top of the valve for convenience purposes.
This electric ball valves combination of a 304 stainless steel body with an EPDM seal make it an ideal choice for potable water applications or used in whole house shut off systems.
